With deepest sorrow we announce that our beloved brother, Steve, has left this world unexpectedly on Sunday, February 19, 2020. Steve was 57.
Steve was born in April, 1962 in Mandan, North Dakota to parents Arthur W. Cox and Claire (Sveen) Cox. He was the youngest of the “Cox kids”. Steve grew up in Wheaton, MD and attended Wheaton High School. Steve played varsity football and baseball and was an all-around athlete. He graduated in 1980. Steve moved with his parents to Lovettsville VA where he attended NOVA-CC and then the University of Illinois. He worked for the US Government at the Department of Education in Washington DC.
Steve suffered a life changing accident which led to him relocating to St. Petersburg, FL where he worked for the Home Shopping Network as a computer programmer.
Steve had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. He was intelligent and well read. He could quote baseball-football-hockey stats, and was an avid fan of the St Petersburg Cardinals where he was a season ticket holder for years, and a fan of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Steve made life-long friends where ever he was. He faced difficult life circumstances that he overcame to lead a productive, family infused life. Steve always had an unexpected, humorous outlook that kept us laughing. Family functions were complete with his presence.
Steve is survived by his loving siblings, sister- Suzi Cox – St Petersburg, FL , sister- Barbara Cox-Dunn (Tom Janasek) – Ocean Pines, MD, brother- Butch (Kay) Cox – Bowman, ND, and sister -Jan (Tony) Estevez – Tampa, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Steve was favorite uncle to Dominic (Angela), Jesse, Aubree (Kasey), Logan (Allie) in North Dakota and Michael and Lucas in Tampa.
We are all going to miss Steve terribly and we are not saying good-bye but until we meet again.
A memorial gathering to honor Steven's memory will be held at Sorensen Funeral Home on Monday, February 24, from two to four p.m. We hope you will share a memory or two of your times with Steve during the gathering. Light refreshments will be served.
