We're Doing Our Part!

Our funeral home has invested in solar energy as a way to give back to the environment.

How long have you been in business?

Our new Funeral home was built in 1971 and it was built with no expense spared. The funeral home was recently remodeled in 2018 and is located on 1.5 acres surrounded with mature oak trees. Our new on site cremation facility was built in 2008 and allows for witness cremations.

Are services handled in-house or outsourced to vendors?

We handle all our services inhouse. We have our own state of the art facility and transport vehicles. Occasionally in rare instances we do use a trusted transportation company if we are not able to pick up your loved one in the middle of the night. These carriers are the highest quality and we do not charge any extra for this service. Our goal is to make sure your loved gets in our care as quickly as possible.

What kinds of funeral packages do you offer?

We offer all our services on our pricing page. We offer everything from direct cremation to full services with viewings and burials. We are also able to cater to any special funeral requests that you or your loved ones may have.

What are the basic costs, and what additional expenses should I expect?

We believe in transparency with pricing and place all of our prices on our pricing page. Our goal is to be a high quality provider at an affordable price.

Can I customize the funeral service?

Absolutely. We have 4 onsite funeral directors at our St. Petersburg location to help make your funeral exactly how you and your family desire. We are not corporate owned so we can make these concessions. For example many of our clients request witness cremation’s and to have food present at viewing/service. We will gladly go out of our way to make this happen as we know these are very important to make sure your service is correct.

What are my payment options?

We take credit cards, cash and checks. We require all of our services to be paid before the service begins.

Are you or your staff on call 24/7?

Yes we have 4 funeral directors on staff so someone is always ready to handle your questions.

Are you familiar with final expense insurance?

We are familiar with all types of insurance.

What services does a Funeral home offer?

A Funeral home offers all the services that are necessary after a death occurs. These services include: Preparing a death certificate, picking up the deceased, holding the deceased in our care until a death certificate is produced, and handling either a cremation or burial. A funeral home can also hold a viewing with our without an embalmed body present at the service.

The difference between a funeral home and a direct cremator?

In today’s environment burials have been steadily replaced with cremations, see the below quote from Wikipedia.

“The cremation rate in the United States has been increasing steadily with the national average rate rising from 3.56% in 1960 to 53.1% in 2018 and projections from the Cremation Association of North America forecasting a rate of 59.4% in 2023” Wikipedia

The rise in cremations has created businesses that just focus just on direct cremations. These businesses are called direct cremators. Often these businesses do not have a licensed funeral director on site and mostly located in strip malls or retail plaza’s. The businesses target customers that are looking for the lowest cost options for cremations. A funeral home such as Sorensen Funeral home does offer direct cremation. The main difference between a funeral home versus a direct cremation would be your loved one would be handled by a licensed funeral director every time. In the case of Sorensen Funeral home your loved one would also not leave or care. You are also able to see your loved one at our facility if you wish. When you use a direct cremator your loved one will often be cremated in an offsite location where no access can be given to the family.

Sorensen funeral home is located in the heart of St. Petersburg Florida. The location is picturesque. This beautiful location is designed to start the healing process for your family.
