Marla Scott Obituary

The family of Marla Jo (Mayhew) Scott sadly announce her passing on November 12, 2021. Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories - Ronald Reagan, President. Her family and friends will always cherish beautiful memories of Marla and she will reside in our hearts forever. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at Sorensen Funeral Home on December 6th, 2021 at 2:00 pm. A committal service will take place at 11:00 am on December 7th, 2021 at the Florida National Cemetery. Marla was born to Bertha Christina Ogg and Charles Floyd Mayhew in Dayton, Ohio, on May 23, 1942. Her brother, Charles Craig Mayhew, joined the family in March of 1945. They were a close knit family and very involved with the Ogg and Mayhew families throughout their entire lives. Marla's family moved to Fairborn, OH when she was in 7th grade and she quickly became best friends with Charlene Scott and Rebecca (Becky) Sheppard. They would remain best friends for the entirety of their lives. Marla graduated from Fairborn High School in 1960.

Marla met and fell in love with Charlene's older brother, Charles Frederick (Fred) Scott. He was in the Navy and stationed on an Aircraft Carrier in Long Beach, CA. Marla left her family and moved across country to marry the love of her life on October 21, 1969. They were married nearly 43 years when he passed in 2012. Marla began her civil service career when she moved to Long Beach, CA to marry Fred. She continued working in the secretarial field for most of her government career because it was a lot easier to get a job in that field while moving around the country with Fred. She retired in May, 1993 from the Army's Physical Fitness School at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, IN.

Marla was predeceased by her father (Charles F. Mayhew), her mother (Bertha Ogg), her husband (Charles F. Scott), her significant other (Richard Morrison), her great grandson (Abraham Likes), her brother (Charles C. Mayhew), her daughter (Leonora Scott), and her sister-in-law and best friend (Charlene Lawson).
