TYRUS RAYMOND SIBLEY

December 14, 1930----March 18, 2023

Ty was born in Port Arthur, Texas and was one of seven children born to William and Mamie Sibley. His brothers were Don, Charles, Joe, Glen and Richard and he had a sister, Dorothy. He spent his early years in Nederland, Texas where he went to grade school and high school. His passion was playing football. He received a full football scholarship to Northwestern State College in Louisiana where he met the love of his life, Billie Sue Gilmore from Homer, Louisiana.The Korean War interrupted their education and they started their sixty-eight years of marriage on January 8, 1951, as Ty left to join the Navy. Their son David was born 10 months later. He was stationed at the Naval Air Base in San Diego, CA. Ty was originally assigned to the recreational department and played on the Air Station football team until he was assigned to the to the Aircraft Carrier "Essex" and shipped out to the Korean war. After serving in the Navy, Ty returned to college on the G.I. Bill at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas where he received a degree in Marketing and Business Administration.Ty worked for several retail gas and oil companies including Shell Oil, Tenneco, Spur Oil, Murphey Oil and Crystal Oil. Eventually Ty and Sue moved back to the area where they first met, Shreveport Louisiana in 1975 where he went into business for himself. His greatest joy was building and owning "The Derrick Truck Stop" in Greenwood, LA.Tyrus was a man that never met a stranger. He loved people and had many friends that he kept in touch with from his college and career days.Ty and Sue were members of the Broadmoor Methodist Church, The Optimist Club and were very active in Northwestern State University Alumni. Tyrus is survived by his son David Sibley and his wife Debi of St. Petersburg , FL and brothers Don Sibley of Shreveport, LA and Richard Sibley of Nederland,TX. Ty had moved to Florida and passed peacefully from health issues with family by his side.
