Susan (Suzi) Cox passed away November 13, 2021, after a devastating bout with cancer. We all lost our big sister. Suzi was born in Minot ND to Art and Claire (Sveen) Cox. The family moved from Grand Forks ND to Wheaton MD where she graduated from Wheaton High School, class of ’71. She was very involved in the Drama Club and the Year Book. She studied at Montgomery College – Rockville. Suzi lived in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC through the years enjoying a lively and lucrative career in the hospitality industry; enjoying most the bar tending experiences. Suzi also lived in Florida, and Wyoming while eventually returning to St Petersburg to help care for our mother. Suzi is predeceased (sorry Sue, I know you hate that word) by her father and mother and our youngest brother Steve. Suzi is survived by her sister Barbara Cox-Dunn of Ocean Pines, MD, her sister Jan Estevez (Tony) of Tampa, FL and brother Art (Butch) Cox (Kay) of Bowman ND. She also is survived by nieces and nephews: Dominic (Angela), Jesse (Chelsey), Aubree (Kasey), and Logan (Ally) all of ND and Michael and Lucas of Tampa FL.
Suzi had a great passion for history – living history - focusing on the Civil War period. She was an avid reader & civilian reenactor for almost 20 years, starting in Harper’s Ferry National Park and travelling the entire east coast for Civil War reenactment events. Her group was professional in their civilian reenacting with period correct clothing, transportation, living quarters (canvas tents) food & cooking. She met many lifelong friends and was published in The Citizen’s Companion, The Voice of Civilian Reenacting.
Susan Claire, Sue, Suzi – you will be missed terribly. Tell Dad, Mom & Steve, we miss them too. And Sissy is doing fine.
We will be having a Memorial Service and Celebration of Suzi at Sorensen Funeral Home on December 4th from 2:00 – 4:00 located at 3180 30th Ave N., St Petersburg, FL 33713 (727-323-5111).
