Sangouane Keungkeosiene, a retiree of the Fish and Wildlife Institute and long-time resident of St. Petersburg, FL, has passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2023 at the age of 79.
Sangouane is survived by his loving wife, Kene Keungkeosiene, his daughter, Bounchanh Toni Keungkeosiene, and his many grandchildren. He is predeceased by his mother, Pau, and his father, Lek.
Sangouane was born in Laos in 1943 and immigrated to the US in 1979 when he was sponsored by the Rotary Club. He immediately started his career with the Fish and Wildlife Institute, a place he was incredibly proud of. He continued his work with the Institute until he was eligible to retire. While dedicating himself to work he also devoted himself to his community; Sangouane spent many years helping other families migrate to the US and acclimate them to their new lives. He also spent time serving as an elder in the Lao community and offered any help and guidance for anyone in need.
Sangouane was a devoted father and grandfather to not only his daughter and grandkids but filled that role for many children that entered his home. He enjoyed laughing, dancing and making up lyrics to his own songs. He enjoyed going to the gym and taking care of his ducks and his baby Cat-ty. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
A traditional Lao funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 pm on July 8, 2023 at Sorensen Funeral Home at 3180 30th Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33173. Flowers, donations and condolences may be offered at the family home.
