Michael David Fitzgerald, 82, was born on February 8th, 1941, in Cape Vincent, New York, to Russell Fitzgerald and Marie Fitzgerald (neé Dezengremel) both of Cape Vincent, New York. He was the oldest of four sons. He passed away December 30, 2023, after a short stay in Bayfront Health in St. Petersburg, Florida. Michael is survived by his two daughters: Rebecca Fitzgerald Spencer of St. Peterburg, Florida and Sarah Fitzgerald Hobel of Hettlingen, Switzerland; their husbands Chip and Daniel; and five grandchildren: Rebecca, Thomas, Jacob, Nick and Jeremy. He is also survived by two brothers: Tom, Joe and his wife Joy, and eight nephews and their families.
Michael was a lifelong democrat and always ready for a lively political discussion. He was passionate about railways as well – he was fond of studying old timetables and acquiring model trains. He also enjoyed collecting stamps. He shared his vast knowledge of these subjects generously with those close to him.
In accordance with Michael’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Instead, we ask friends and family to honor him privately and hold on to cherished memories of him.
