JULIA JANE WATSON, M.A., AGE 90, who was born as Julia Jane Rorie in Paris, Tennessee, died peacefully under the care of Hospice and Mease Countryside Hospital on September 12, 2025. Julia had bravely battled the damages of Covid-19 for 5 years.
Julia attended numerous elementary schools while her dad was in the Army during the war, and she lived with her Aunt Essie on the farm for many years. After high school she earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees at Indiana University and was a life member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. She specialized in History. Over the years she became a prominent teacher, counselor, and private tutor for ADHD and disadvantaged children. Her expertise in teaching reading became her role in life. She became associated with Dr. Harold Levinson of Long Island, New York, and worked with him for decades, to help students that were thought to be unteachable because of Dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning disabilities.
Julia worked tirelessly to develop and perfect teaching techniques in association with Sue Dickson, Author of Sing, Spell, Read, and Write, the International best-selling and most successful reading program ever developed. Sue’s training and Julia’s brilliance led to the success of thousands of students who otherwise would most likely have failed.
Julia has developed and patented 2 reading programs, starting with 3-year-olds, and all the way to adulthood. She has won local awards and often been a guest speaker at meetings of educational strategy and special programs for her special interest, the teaching reading to the black children and the black community in Pinellas County, Florida. Shining examples of her talent and dedication are young black men who have become attorneys, and executives of major US corporations. She loves them all, and they love her.
Julia’s success reaches all the way to Hungary, because of her many students that she has taught who live here in Florida, and travel back home.
Julia is survived by Granddaughter Haley Goshert, St. Petersburg, FL and her mother, Dawn, one grandson, Brian Goshert, in Indiana, and one great grandchild, John Goshert, in Indiana, and the love of her life, her life partner of 25 years, Robert M. Galbo of Largo, Florida.
GOD REST YOUR SOUL WITH CHRIST, JULIA. YOU WILL FOREVER BE LOVED AND MISSED.
