John Botbyl Obituary

John (Jack) Botbyl was born February 26, 1925 in Haledon, New Jersey. He was the son of Abram and Frances (Boos) Botbyl. Jack died May 23, 2021 at the age of 96. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen and Marion, and four brothers, Richard, William, Donald and Gerald. He is also preceded in death by two wives, Marjorie (Goldstein) married 1948-1994 and Joan (Brown) married 1996-2009. He is survived by three brothers, Patrick, Eugene and Howard and two sons, Jack Jr. (Donna) and Glenn (Kathryn). He is also survived by a grandson Greg (Alana), great grandsons Coleton, Evan, and Camden and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was proud to be an army World War II veteran that served in the Pacific. He, like his siblings, started working at a young age to help his parents provide for their large family. Jack was a bricklayer like his father and brothers. He took night courses to learn to read blueprints and excelled at his craft.

He lived in Haledon, Paterson, Wayne and finally Highland Lakes, New Jersey until he retired to Florida in the winters and Claryville, New York in the summers. Jack enjoyed hunting, hiking and socializing with his large family in a beautiful place known as Red Top in the Catskill Mountains where he and other family members had homes.

As he aged, he was lucky to have Gigi Rinesh as a loving caregiver and friends in Florida that helped keep his mind sharp so he could remember all the jokes he enjoyed sharing. He and Marjorie visited every state and had a hat with state pins and refrigerator magnets to prove it.

Arrangements have been made for his ashes to be placed in Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa, New Jersey. A celebration of life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local Hospice.
