Jason Gell Obituary

Jason Edward Gell, age 45, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away on November 17, 2023 due to complications from Lupus. Born on October 10, 1978, in St. Petersburg, Florida,  Jason lived a life of purpose and touched the hearts of many with his memorable presence. Jason attended Saint Raphael Catholic School, Saint Petersburg Catholic High School, The University of South Florida, and Stetson University College of Law attaining his Juris Doctorate,  Following his educational journey, Jason pursued a successful career as an Assistant State Attorney in the Sixth Judicial Circuit. Jason dedicated himself passionately to upholding the law.  His leadership qualities were evident; he was often called upon as a public speaker and highly respected for his courtroom demeanor.  

Jason left an indelible mark on those around him.  Additionally, Jason served as a member of and then the President of the Suncoast Tarpon Roundup. Moreover, he demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit as the proud owner of St. Pete’s Finest - Fishspread & Catering.  Jason's life’s passion was his G Force Fishing Team. G Force was led by captain Jason Gell and fishing achievements are too numerous to count although some of his proudest moments in the last few years include: 2016 SKA National Single Engine Champions, 2022 Spring King of the Beach - 1st Place Single Engine, and 2023 Spring King of the Beach - 1st Place Single Engine.  Jason was the founder of a fishing tournament  - Snell Isle Flats Fishing Invitational (SNIFFI), a local tournament whose proceeds went to benefit pancreatic cancer to honor his father Ralph Gell.  Jason was a "force" in all that he did and was involved with - including his devotion to his career, family, fishing and community. 

In his personal relationships, Jason was generous, cherished and respected. He is survived by his loving wife Anne Gell,  his mother Debra Gell,  his dogs Mahi and Sig Gell,  Jason was preceded in death by his father Ralph Gell, his grandparents Gene and Shar Gell, Edward and Olga Senechal, and his Uncle Ron Senechal.

Family and friends are invited to join in the remembrance of Jason’s life during “JASON’S GONE FISHING” services. The solemn service will be held on December 2, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with the formal ceremony beginning at 4:00 pm at Sorensen Funeral Home, located at 3180 30th Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33713. Afterward, a casual gathering will take place at Ferg’s Sports Bar - Concert Lot from 6:30 pm onwards,  located at 1320 Central Ave, St. Petersburg, FL 33705, coinciding with the FSU Playoff Game.  

The family kindly requests that floral arrangements be made through Desirae’s Flowers (contact: 727-776-0368). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jason’s LegaSea Gell Family Foundation, Inc., in honor of Jason’s philanthropic and warrior spirit to raise awareness of lupus as well as support individuals and families in our community impacted by lupus. Jason’s untimely departure has left a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May his memory remain eternally cherished, and may his soul find eternal peace.
