Harold Olver Obituary

Olver, Harold D. "Hal"

June 6, 1932 - March 26, 2022

89, of Largo passed into the heavenly arms of his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on March 26, 2022. Hal fell towards the end of 2021 & suffered additional complications from diabetes over the last five months. Born in Lansing, MI he graduated from J.W. Sexton HS in 1950 and graduated from Ferris State University in Michigan earning a B.S. Degree while majoring in accounting & was a member of the Sigma Alpha Delta Fraternity. He served in the USAF from1950-1954 during the Korean War serving in Japan from 1951-52, Iwo Jima from 1952-1953 and Fairchild AFB from1953-54. After his service ended he married Carolyn L. Mock in Savannah, GA. Harold lived in Burke, VA while working for the U.S. General Accountability Office in Washington, D.C. from 1957-1985 and retired after 28 years then moved to Largo, Fl to follow his dream of playing softball into his senior years.  His love of Florida began as a young man after bringing his grandparents here after his graduation from HS.  His love of softball brought him to play with The Half Century Softball League from 1987-2005 then Kids & Kubs, the “young guys”, he’d say from 2006 to 2021.  In 2005 he was proudly inducted into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame. Hal had many years of playing sports and coaching with an impressive amount of trophies, championship rings, medals, plaques and certificates.  Harold was very intelligent and had an amazing memory. With enthusiasm and passion he told stories, recalled teams, players and scores of games he played in high school, college, USAF and senior softball games. Hal loved Jesus, prophecy & would share  his salvation story from 1972 with anyone he could. A man with a huge heart for anyone but especially for the less fortunate. He wanted to help everyone, especially in his senior years.  Hal dedicated his life to his wife of 63 years, Carolyn, his family and softball.  We will miss him and his passion for life.  We believe he’s in heaven playing ball, keeping score and calculating batting averages. He was preceded in death his wife, Carolyn (2016); grandson, Michael J. (2010). He is survived by son Michael (Lisa); daughter Karen (Eric); 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Saturday, April 2nd from 1:00pm-3:00pm followed by a service at 3:00pm including military honors and a ceremony by members of the Kids & Cubs Softball team. Pastor Glenn Davis presiding.
