Beverly Arlene Sawyer Caterson was born September 22, 1942, to Freddie and Betty Sawyer in St. Petersburg, Florida, at Mound Park Hospital, now Bayfront Medical Center. She went home to our Lord, September 9, 2020. She was a pre-school teacher, caregiver, homemaker and gracious lady, sharing her time, heart and possessions with others. To those around her, she was known to her friends as Bev, her family as Sis, Aunt B and Mom.
As a descendent of Treasure Island homesteader Thomas Henry Sawyer, Beverly’s family roots trace several decades of Pinellas County. Bev graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1961, attended both Lakeview and Roser Park Elementary as well as Southside Junior High. She took several classes at St. Petersburg Junior College (SPC). Her life’s work ranged from secretary at Pinellas Lumber to a preschool teacher at Central Christian School, mother to Granny Nanny and the PTA at her children’s schools. She enjoyed bowling, watching baseball and playing cards. She loved the company of friends and family. Many family trips were taken throughout the southeastern United States, as well New York, Alaska, and dream trips to the United Kingdom, Ireland and her last amazing journey, the Redwood’s National Forest, inspired by her 5th grade teacher. Numerous memories were created that will be treasured for a lifetime.
