Betsy Robertson Dosh

Betsy Robertson Dosh

Betsy Robertson Dosh, at the mature age of 86, passed away peacefully at Suncoast Hospice on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018 in the arms of “The Love of Her Life “ Laurance “Zookie“ Dosh, after a brave struggle with cancer.
Betsy was born on Dec, 6, 1931, the daughter of Thomas and Sara Robertson, in Pittsburg, PA. The family moved to Pass -A-Grille, Florida in 1936. She embraced the Florida lifestyle and learned to body surf and sail with friends. The group of young sailors enjoyed trying to jump from the sailboats to join the dolphins following the boat. She had no success catching the dolphins then, but we hope she is swimming with the dolphins now in Heaven.
She graduated from Sunshine Elementary in Pass-a Grille and later went on to graduate from St. Pete. High School in the Class of ‘49. Then, after raising her four children, went to work for Florida Federal Savings and Loan where she was a bank teller. Then, she became a Realtor and was recognized with the “One Million Dollar Council” Award.
Betsy thoroughly enjoyed entertaining at home with her family and friends. You could always count on her for making and bringing her famous deviled eggs. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, gardening, dancing, making miniature doll houses and shadowboxes. She was a member of The Tampa Bay Miniature Enthusiasts where she became the President in 2010.
Betsy was a member of the Salty Sisters at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and became Captain and an amazing “dare me kind” of Skipper. She would always be at the helm with a cigarette and a Coke in her hand. Amazing talent! No matter what, her children were not allowed to call her on Wednesdays, because that was her Salty Sisters Day. She taught her children to sail and later sailed in the SPYC Bikini Cup all women’s annual sailing regattas with her daughter Karen and became “Skipper of the Year” 1990 Suncoast Women’s Sailing Championship.
Betsy also was a Nurses Aide and a volunteer for Hospice. She loved to go to the drum circle at Treasure Island and go dancing with her favorite person in her life, Dosh, as she called her husband. Betsy and Dosh were reunited after 49 years in 1994 with the help of West Point Alumni Assoc. and were married on Jan. 1, 2001 and resided in St. Petersburg, Fl until her death.
Betsy is survived by her loving husband Larry and her four children Katherine E. Willis, James H. Willis lll, Karen Lee Willis and Roy Allen Willis, four grandchildren Joshua, Jason, Joslynn and Ronnie, and seven great grandchildren, other loving family members and many loving friends.
Thank you, Larry for bringing joy and sparkle into Mom’s eyes. She was truly blessed.
Betsy / Mom you will be truly missed by your husband, children, grandchildren and friends. We love and miss you already. There will be a gathering in the Sorensen Funeral Home 3180 30th Ave N St. Petersburg on Thursday, November 15th from 5:00pm-5:30pm with a memorial service at 5:30pm followed by a celebration of life until 8:00pm. Refreshments will be served. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Suncoast Hospice.

We send our love and heartfelt condolences to Betsy’s family. We fondly remember Betsy from our school years forward. She was fun, reliable, compassionate, and so much more. Larry was a “found” source of happiness and Betsy was filled with excitement when he re-entered her life. We will miss her and know she has joined the 49’ers in heaven.
